Does your spouse use marijuana? If so, do you know what kind of effect being addicted to marijuana will have on your marriage? I’m sure there have been times when the two of you have argued about smoking marijuana. An addiction of any kind can put a great deal of stress on a marriage. Many marriages in which one or both of the involved spouses use drugs will fail. Why do they fail? They fail because there will be a lack of trust, communication, and respect, the three things that are vital to a successful marriage.
If you or your spouse are addicted to marijuana, there will be a lot of mistrust in the relationship. This is especially true if only one person uses marijuana. Many times you see people lying about their habit to their spouse. They may tell you that they are quitting or that they haven’t spent money in a while. When your spouse discovers the truth and that you have been lying, this lack of confidence increases. It will keep growing until they can no longer believe a word that comes out of their mouth. Many problems with trust revolve around money with addiction. Smoking marijuana is an expensive habit and when you start spending more money than you have and you miss work to smoke marijuana, you are going to lie to your spouse about it.
Like a lack of confidence, being addicted to marijuana also causes communication problems. If you are smoking marijuana, you will have time to communicate with your partner while you are using it. Continued marijuana use will affect your short-term memory. While you are using, you may have to tell your spouse something important but cannot remember or because you are so high that you don’t even care. Things like picking up the kids, paying the bills, going to work, etc. will begin to forget. This is a recipe for destruction.
The last reason being addicted to marijuana can ruin your marriage is disrespect for your spouse. This is the most important thing in any marriage. Mutual respect for each other. How are you supposed to show your spouse respect if you are addicted to marijuana and you know they don’t like that? It’s a giant slap in the face. Not many marriages are going to last long if you disrespect them. If you respected your spouse, you would do whatever it takes to end your addiction to smoking marijuana because you know that it would make your spouse happy and show him that you respect him.
As you can see, anyone addicted to marijuana will have a very negative effect on their marriage. This can be devastating not only for your marriage, but for your children as well. Smoking marijuana will eventually ruin your marriage. It’s just a matter of time. If you really love your spouse and your children, then you need to find a way to quit smoking marijuana so that this doesn’t happen to you. Is it really worth the risk?
