Weather in Belize

Belize experiences only wet and dry seasons and can be specifically categorized by months. Actual weather conditions change each year, but once the pattern begins, the weather becomes very predictable.

January

Belize experiences little rain during January. Only the highlands of the Maya Mountains have rainfall of around nine to 10 inches. The northern part of the country can experience less than 10 inches of rain. In the southern zone, Maya bean crops are beginning to mature, while in the northern zone, sugarcane crops are in full bloom.

February

February tends to have the most consistent weather conditions in Belize. The winds are quite dry and blow steadily. The morning rains come from the coasts, constant, but not very frequent. Precipitation falls to about six inches during this month in Toledo, while the rest of the country receives only one inch.

March

March’s weather is pretty similar to February’s, except for the northern part of the country, which experiences much less rain, and sometimes almost none at all. The winds begin to subside during this month. Thunderstorms begin to threaten the land over the Maya Mountains. This is the month when farmers start harvesting their crops.

April

The rainy season begins during this month and the harvest is in full swing.

Can

The rainy season is in full force and almost all parts of the country are assured of some rain. In some areas, the rain is heavier. This is also the season for storms, with more frequent rain in the south than in the north.

June

The rain continues to fall and becomes more intense during this month. The winds begin to build up once more. With the consistency of rain and strong sun, this is the best time to start growing.

July

Rainfall is a bit less compared to June, but everything else regarding weather conditions is pretty similar to the previous month.

August

The rains begin to abate and the dry season begins. Dry weather conditions may last only a few weeks.

September

September sees the winds start to die down. Evening and night showers are common.

October

Cold northerly winds begin to pick up and meet warm winds from the tropics, bringing rain. The cooler days begin during this month.

November

This is the coldest month of the season. Not only are the cold winds from the north blowing harder, but the breeze from the coast also comes in. The rain keeps falling.

December

December marks the start of the dry season and planning for the planting season begins.
