Everything But The Girl is another band I have my sister P to thank for getting me into, although I liked them before I heard their CDs, but hearing more stuff than what I heard on the radio completely turned me around. EBTG was formed in Hull, England in 1982 and consists of Tracey Thorn and Ben Watt, who are also a married couple with several children. For a long time it was not known that they were even a couple. 1990 saw the release of The Language Of Life and it was their first international hit album, peaking at #77 in the US and #10 at home in the UK. The Driving single was the album’s biggest hit, reaching number 30 on the US chart. Worldwide was launched in 1991 with the hit single Old Friends. This album peaked at number 29 on the UK chart.

Acoustic was released in 1992 and contains some of their earlier hits and also covers of Cyndi Lauper’s Time After Time, Tom Waits’ Downtown Train, Elvis Costello’s Alison and Bruce Springsteen’s Tougher Than The Rest. The acoustic album was a US only release. Another compilation album was released in 1993 titled Home Movies.

Their next studio album was released in 1994 called Amplified Heart and was another comeback for EBTG, peaking at number 20 in the UK and number 46 in the US. The album contains probably his best-known song, Missing, which peaked at #3 on the UK chart and #1 on the US Billboard Hot 100 Airplay chart. The rise of success continued with the release of Walking Wounded. , which was released in 1996 and is the highest charting of her albums to date, reaching number 4 in the UK and number 37 in the US.
