Healing our minds with the wonders of nature

We simply wanted to “get away” from the negative environment of COVID19 that hangs over us with the hostility of the riots, the lies of the media; Find the beauty and be grateful for living.

We got on the Big Blue Ram Truck without knowing where we were going. Driving down the winding and hilly road without a plan or destination, we feel like we are driving towards the skies. This was a Freedom Day. A day to heal our mind.

Along the way we passed beautiful picturesque mountains of purple, blue, and hundreds of shades of green; God’s beautiful work of art.

We saw gardens of sunflowers with majestic dark green stems blooming happily as yellow, gold and red rose towards the sun enjoying each glorious warm ray.

The higher we drove into the mountains, the less air conditioning we needed in the truck. Temperatures dropped ten degrees in minutes.

We passed The Old General Store with its rustic wood frame and old tin roof. What a beautiful site. (I wish I had taken a photo). Along the way, a small cheese factory located in the mountain at the end of a winding dirt road. Where did these mountain people find this variety of delicious cheese?

Further down the road, an antique store displayed farmer’s plows and other farm equipment on the porch where the owner had left them to attract potential customers.

With each sinuous curve came another delicious beauty surprise. We enjoyed mountainous grazing lands filled with hundreds of head of cattle filling their bellies with homegrown mountain grass.

Several miles away we saw an exceptionally large herd of fat, woolly sheep, with a couple of goats mingling and obviously teasing them. Across the road, in the valley, we saw more happy goats on the wooden benches their owner had built for them. Goats want to climb. The farmer agreed.

A remarkably short but heavy rain lowered the temperature in the truck another ten degrees. What a beautiful, exciting and peaceful journey!

We were hungry. There is no place to stop and eat. We finally reached a small town. The grocery store located deep in a wooded area seemed cozy. We put on our masks and went inside only to find a small deli. The sandwiches had run out. We bought a small box of deli egg salad and a half loaf of artesian bread, went back to the truck and found a large shade tree. There we had our delicious lunch.

Taking a wrong turn on the way home was a blessing. The scenery of the Smoky Mountain glowed with magnificent splendor as it absorbed healing from the bright rays of the sun.

Driving up the mountain we turned up the air conditioning in the truck, enjoyed the music on the radio, and our minds were at peace.

Sometimes we just need to get away from it all and allow ourselves to heal and enjoy God’s Beautiful Work of Art.
